NBA opening (second) night thoughts

Entering the 2016-2017 NBA season, the narratives were both simple and extra. Durant spurned Oklahoma City to join the devil in Oakland, Lebron brought his home state a championship to end their drought, Russell Westbrook will be playing with motivation, and a lot of turnover around in the NBA. More drama than your favourite day time soap opera. But there were many sub plots as well; Anthony Davis seemed to be a forgotten big man with all the league oozing over Karl Towns and his superstar talent. Davis reminded the basketball world just what type of a talent he is. It was a stat line for the ages; 50 points, 16 boards, 7 steals, 5 assists and 4 blocks. He made half of his shots, going 17-of-34 from the field and hit 16 of his 17 free throws, but he Pelicans still lost, 107-102.

Russell Westbrook is undoubtedbly the top dog for the Thunder after Kevin Durant’s departure, and Russ did not disappoint in Joel Embiid’s block party. The explosive guard was an assist from a triple double, notching 32 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists in a win against the improved 76ers.
